Mike has welcomed the Coalition Government’s announcement that the Universal Jurisdiction law will be changed in September.

The Justice Secretary has announced that when Parliament returns in September the law will be altered so any arrest warrants will require the consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions. 

Mike said, "I am delighted that the Government have acted quickly to tighten up the Universal Jurisdiction process. Now the Director of Public Prosecutions will assess the evidence and only issue warrants where there is a solid case. This will end politically motivated warrants being sought."

The move has been welcomed by the Board of Deputies and the Israeli Government.
