Equitable Life payments to begin
Thursday, 22 July 2010 15:54

Mike has welcomed the Government’s announcement that Equitable Life victims will begin to receive compensation from next year.

The total amount of compensation will be announced by the government in October, with payments being allocated by a new independent commission.  An Equitable Life Bill is now being introduced in Parliament in order to allow the Treasury to make payments.

Speaking after the announcement in the House of Commons, Mike Freer said, “Much will depend on the final compensation figure but I am pleased the Government appears to be distancing itself from the Chadwick Report.

I will continue to press the Government to compensate pensioners for their relative loss as a consequence of regulatory failure.”
