Mike backs plan to extend Freedom Pass to over 60s

Mike Freer MP has welcomed Boris Johnson’s promise to extend the Freedom Pass to Londoners aged 60 or over.

This reverses Ken Livingstone’s Labour decision to raise the age at which Londoners are entitled to free travel.  The move would mean any resident of London aged 60 or over will be entitled to free travel on bus, Tube, DLR and London Overground 24 hours a day within the city.

Speaking from Finchley, Mike Freer said, “Boris has already extended the Freedom Pass so it could be used 24 hours a day.  I know from speaking to local residents how much they value this, so I am delighted that he has pledged to provide the Freedom Pass to everyone over 60.

Like Boris and the Government I remain committed to the Freedom Pass continuing, free of means testing.”

Transport for London have already budgeted for the modest additional cost of lowering the Freedom Pass age limit to 60 for next year, and Mayor Johnson has made clear that it is affordable across the whole of his next term, if re-elected.
