Your Road Has Been Resurfaced
Barnet has resurfaced more roads than the length of the M25.....
Your road is one of the latest to be resurfaced and we are now addressing problems with our pavements.
We pledged to resurface the Borough's many damaged roads. As your Conservative Councillors we are responding to your priorities and delivering on our promises.
If you know a road in need of resurfacing, please contact Cllr Mike Freer 8359 2059 or email

Lighting Up the Local Area
Barnet Council has signed a deal to replace every street lamp in the Borough. The equivalent of one street a day will be re-lit under the 25-year programme, with 75% of our lights upgraded in the first 5 years. Many of the columns are corroding (not always obvious) and need replacing to make them safe.
The new lamps will also be more energy efficient.
Mike Freer Leader of the Council said:
"Through this deal, the conservative administration is buiding a brighter Barnet in the years to come. The new lamps will help drive crime from our streets ans make local people feel safer in their area late at night."

Equitable Life Scandal
Many residents have written to me recently about the Equitable Life scandal. Readers may recall that Equitable Life collapsed a few years ago with a subsequent loss of the savings held on behalf of investors and policy holders.
This has caused a great deal of distress to those people who have lost their savings. Click here to see my response.

Keep Our Post Offices Open!
Conservative Candidate Mike Freer has asked local residents to sign and send back his petition postcards to support him in efforts being made to keep local post offices open. The more people who speak out against these closures the more likely the Post office will begin to take us seriously.
Across Finchley and Golders Green the following post offices have been threatened with closure:
• Childs Hill – 366 Cricklewood Lane, NW2 2QD • East End Road – 121 High Road, East Finchley, N2 0SZ • High Road – 435 Nether Street, N3 2NT • Nether Street – Nether Street, N3 1NT • Pennine Parade – 2 Pennine Parade, NW2 1NT

Shame on Labour!
The Labour Government are set to impose higher taxes on hard working home owners like you. If you have any of the following, the new “Home Information Packs” will gather information that will hit your wallet hard.
• A Conservatory? • Parking Spaces? • Double Glazing? • An Extension? • Additional Bedrooms? • Attic Conversion? • Central Heating? • Nice View? • A Patio? • Local Facilities?
Mike Freer states: "Labour's plans for Home Information Packs are nothing less than a home information tax. The packs are gathering information to allow Labour to undertake their controversial Council Tax re-evaluation by the backdoor. The Government are compiling databases of information logging precise details on every home - including the number of bedrooms, conservatories, floor area, bathrooms, extensions and central heating. This will allow Gordon Brown to hike Council Tax for those who have worked hard on improving their home".
The Conservatives oppose these plans. The Government should be doing more to keep Council Tax down, not finding new ways to tax hard working local residents.

Dump Labours Bin Tax
Labour Ministers are continuing to push Council's around the country into introducing a new 'rubbish tax' scheme, where residents are charged up to £100 a year to throw away their rubbish. This would punish larger families. The Conservative controlled Barnet Council has said NO to this 'rubbish tax'.
Mike Freer said "The Labour Government should dump this idea, many households are already suffering from the rising costs of living and to charge households to throw away their rubbish will punish families with children by an extra £100 a year more than they currently pay".
If you wish to add your support AGAINST this rubbish tax, please let me know at
